“May we come too?” said the children.

"May we?" said the rabbit, the cat, the dog, the pig, the sheep, the chickens, the calf and the goat.

For a while they drove along happily. The sun shone, the engine chugged and everyone was enjoying the ride. * o. _! `2 I3 P

“I don't like the look of rhose clouds. I think it's going to rain,” said Mr Gumpy.

The road grew muddier, and muddier, and the wheels began to spin. # z4 O$ F& t/ }3 t/ | H/ [# S

Mr Gumpy looked at the hill ahead.

2 B; N6 A6 Q1 r, v! F"Some of you will have to get out and push," he said.

“Not me,”said the goat. “I'm too old.”

“Not me,”said the sheep. "I might catch cold."

The car sank deeper into the mud.

"Now we're really stuck," said Mr Gumpy. : P* O7 S! v0 c/ q

汽车陷进烂泥里，动都不能动。 ' J/ E; R! `7 ]- r4 o* E& l

甘伯伯说：“我们抛锚了。” + g+ h& Q: @8 f$ n! x% U
: w; q: ^: s9 o' M大家只好全部下去推车了。

They pushed and shoved and heaved and strained and gasped and shipped and slithered and squelched.

"Don't stop." cried Mr Gumpy. "Keep it up! We're nearly there."

/ Q. J/ c8 ^. m) M7 z大家推啊，顶啊，抬啊，抗啊，喘大气的喘大气，打滑的打滑，东倒西歪，呼哧呼哧地踩着烂泥。

好不容易，汽车向前挪了一步。

The car edged its way to the top of the hill.

They looked up and saw that the sun was shining.

汽车艰难地爬到了小山的山顶。 ( \7 r- H6 u) t N

; s9 L( P) t3 ~7 ]4 R1 b2 G0 b"We'll drive home across the bridge," said Mr Gumpy.
