One night a woman fell from a boat into the ocean.
No one saw her fall. The waves were rough.
Soon she grew tired.
Then something bumped against her.
“A shark!” she thought. “Oh, no!”
一天晚上，一个女子从船上掉进了海里
谁也没看见她掉下去，海面上浪很大
很快她就游累了
这时候有什么东西撞到了她
Dolphins are mammals, like us. They breathe through a hole on top of their heads.
It’s called a blowhole. Dolphins pop up about twice a minute for a quick breath of air.
海豚的一生都生活在水里
但它们可不是鱼
鱼类可以在水中呼吸，海豚却不行
海豚是像我们一样的哺乳动物，它们通过头顶的孔呼吸
这个孔叫做鼻孔，大约每隔半分钟，海豚就会浮上水面呼吸新鲜空气
Dolphins live all over the world. There are more than thirty different kinds.
The bottlenose dolphin is the one people know best.
It has a big built-in grin!
世界各处都可以看到海豚，世界上一共有三十多种不同种类的海豚
人们最熟悉的种类是宽吻海豚
宽吻海豚的模样就像咧嘴在笑！
What do dolphins eat? Fish.
And they are good at catching them.
A dolphin can find a tiny fish even if it’s too dark to see.
It uses echolocation(ek-o-lo-lKAY-shun)
How does echolocation work?
A dolphin sends out bursts of sound. CREEEAK.
The sound hits a rock or a fish or anything else in the water. Then an echo comes back to the dolphin.
It’s like a picture---but made with sounds.
海豚们吃什么呢？它们吃鱼
而且它们十分擅长抓鱼
即使在伸手不见五指的黑暗中，它们也能准确地抓到一条小鱼
它们用的方法是回声定位
回声定位是怎么起作用的呢？
海豚发出一阵叫声，当声波遇到一块石头、一条鱼或者水中其余物体的时候，便有回声传回来
就这样，海豚看见了前方的一切——用声音“看见”的
Dolphins are playful. They will turn almost anything into a toy.
They toss seaweed and fish. They like to surf too. They even hitch rides on waves made by motorboats!
Dolphins are usually gentle. But sometimes they get angry. How can you tell?
The dolphin makes a loud clapping noise with its jaws. Or slaps the water hard with its tail.
海豚们十分顽皮，它们能把任何东西变成玩具
它们把水草和鱼抛来抛去，它们也喜欢冲浪，甚至会在摩托艇形成的波浪上搭便车！
海豚们通常十分温顺，但有时候它们也会生气。我们怎么看出它们生气了呢？
它们生气的时候呀，会用它们的下巴发出响亮的拍击声，或者用它们的尾巴重重地击打着水
Dolphins live in groups. They help each other out.
Sometimes a dolphin gets sick. Or hurt.
It sinks in the water---and can’t come up for air. It could drown!
Other dolphins gather around. They swim under the sick dolphin. They push it up and down until it can swim by itself.
海豚们成群地生活，它们会互相帮助
如果一只海豚生病、或者受伤了
它会沉在水中，不能浮到水面上呼吸空气，它会淹死的！
这时候其他海豚便会**起来，它们在受伤的海豚下方支撑着它，推着它向前游动，直到它有能力自己游动
Sharks and killers whales eat dolphins---especially babies.
If a shark comes by, the dolphins circles around it to scare it away. If that doesn’t work, the dolphins will fight.
Dolphins can’t always help each other.
Many dolphins swim with schools of tuna. When fishermen closed their tuna nets, they trapped dolphins too.
Millions of dolphins died.
鲨鱼和逆戳鲸吃海豚——特别是小海豚
当一条鲨鱼出现时，海豚们会绕着它游，以此吓跑它。如果这个方法行不通，它们就会进行斗争

Many people were upset. They stopped eating tuna.
Children sent letters to tuna companies. They begged them to help the dolphins. At last many companies listened.
Now their fishermen must not trap dolphins. They mark their cans Dolphins Safe.
But the fight is not over. People are still working to keep dolphins safe in the sea.
人们都很伤心，他们不再吃金枪鱼了
孩子们给金枪鱼工厂寄去了信，他们请这些工厂帮帮海豚们。终于，许多工厂采取了行动
现在，捕杀海豚已被明令禁止，罐头上标注了“海豚安全”
但是斗争还未结束，人们仍在想法设法保护海豚的安全
