One morning Toad sat in the bed.
“I have many things to do,” he said.
“I will have many things to do, I will write them
all down on a list so I can remember them.”
Toad wrote down in a piece of paper:
A List of things to do today.
Then he wrote: Wake up.
"I have done that,” said Toad
and he crossed out: Wake Up.
一天早上，蟾蜍坐在床上。
“我有很多事情要做，”他说，
“我会有很多事情要做，我会把它们都写在
一个清单上，这样我就能记住它们。”
蟾蜍在一张纸上写下：今天要做的事情清单
然后他写道：醒醒。

Then Toad wrote other things on the paper.
A list of things to do today: Wake Up,
Eat Breakfast, Get dressed, Go to Frog’s house,
Take a walk with Frog, Eat lunch, Take a nap,
Play game with Frog, Eat supper, Go to sleep
“There,” said Toad. “Now my day is all written down.”
He got out of bed and had something to eat.
Then Toad crossed out: Eat Breakfast.
然后蟾蜍在纸上写了其他的事情。
今天要做的事情清单：起床，
吃早餐，穿衣服，去青蛙家，
和青蛙散步，吃午饭，打盹，
和青蛙玩游戏，吃晚饭，睡觉。
“蟾蜍说，“现在我的日子都写下来了。”
他下床去吃点东西。然后蟾蜍划掉：吃早餐。
Toad took his clothes out of the closet and put them on.
Then he crossed out: Get dressed,
Toad put the list in his pocket.
He opened the door and walked out into the morning.
Soon toad was at frog’s front door.
He took the list from his pocket and
crossed out: Go to Frog’s house
蟾蜍从衣橱里拿出衣服，穿上。
然后他划掉了：穿上衣服，
蟾蜍把名单放在口袋里。
他打开门，走出家门。
不久蟾蜍来到青蛙的门前。
他从口袋里拿出那张单子，
划掉了：去青蛙家
Toad knocked at the door. “Hello,” said Frog.
“Look at my list of things to do,” said Toad.
“Oh,” said Toad, “that is very nice.”
Toad said, “My list tells me that we will go for a walk.”
“All right,” said Frog. “I am ready.”
蟾蜍敲门。“你好，”青蛙说。
“看看我要做的事情清单，”蟾蜍说。
“哦，”蟾蜍说，“那真是太棒了。”
蟾蜍说：“我的单子告诉我，我们要去散步。”
“好吧，我准备好了。”青蛙说。
Frog and Toad went on a long walk.
Then Toad took the list from his pocket again.
He crossed out: Take a walk with Frog.
Just then there was a strong wind.
It blew the list Out of Toad’s hand.
The list blew high up into the air.
“Help!” cried Toad. “My list is blowing away.
What will I do without my list?”
青蛙和蟾蜍走了很长一段路。
然后蟾蜍又从口袋里拿出了这张清单。
他划掉了：和青蛙散步。
就在这时，刮起了大风。
它把这份清单从蟾蜍手里吹走了。
这份清单被吹到空中。
“救命！”蟾蜍叫道，“我的清单被吹走了。
没有我的清单我该怎么办？”
“Hurry!” said Frog. “We will run and catch it.”
“No!” shouted Toad. “I cannot do that.”
“Why not?” asked Frog.
“Because,” wailed Toad,
“running after my list in not one of the things
that I wrote on my list of things to do!”
“快点！”青蛙说。“我们会跑去追上他的。”
“不！我不能那样做。”蟾蜍喊道。
“为什么不呢？”青蛙问。
“因为，”蟾蜍哀嚎着，
“追赶清单并不是我写在清单上要做的事情之一。”
Frog ran after the list.
He ran over hills and swamps,
but the list blew on and on.
At last, Frog came back to Toad.
“I am sorry,” gasped Frog,
“but I could not catch your list,”
“Blah,” said Toad.
青蛙追着名单跑。
他跑过山丘和沼泽，
但名单却一遍遍地飞来飞去。
最后，青蛙回到蟾蜍跟前。
“对不起，”青蛙喘着气说，“但我没能抓住你的清单。”
“废话，”蟾蜍说。
"I cannot remember any of the things
that were on my list of things to do.
I will just have to sit there and do nothing,” said Toad.
Toad sat and did nothing. Frog sat with him.
After a long time, Frog said, “Toad, it is getting dark.
We should be going to sleep now.”
“我记不起我清单上要做的任何事情了。
我只能坐在那儿什么也不做，”蟾蜍说。
蟾蜍坐着，什么也不做。青蛙和他坐在一起。
过了很久，青蛙说，

“That was the last thing on my list!”
Toad wrote on the ground with a stick: Go to sleep.
Then he crossed out: Go to sleep.
“There,” said Toad. “Now my day is all crossed out!”
“I am glad,” said Frog.
Then Frog and Toad went right to sleep.
“睡吧！”蟾蜍喊道。“这是我名单上最后一件事了！”
蟾蜍在地上用棍子写着：去睡觉。
然后他划掉了：去睡觉。
“那里，”蟾蜍说。“现在我的一天都被划掉了！”

The Garden
花园
Frog was in his garden. Toad came walking by.
“What a fine garden you have, Frog,” he said.
“Yes,” said Frog. “It is very nice, but it was hard work.”
“I wish I had a garden,” said Toad.
“Here are some flower seeds.
Plant them in the ground,” said Frog,
“and soon you will have a garden.”
“How soon?” asked Toad.
“Quite soon,” said Frog.
青蛙在他的花园里。蟾蜍跟着他一起。
“你的花园真漂亮，青蛙，”他说。
“是的，”青蛙说，“很漂亮，但这是艰苦的工作。”
“我希望我有一个花园，”蟾蜍说。

Toad ran home. He planted the flower seeds.
“Now seeds,” said Toad, “start growing.”
Toad walked up and down a few times.
The seeds did not start to grow.
Toad put his head close to the ground and said loudly,
“Now seeds, start growing!”
Toad looked at the ground again.
The seeds did not start to grow.
蟾蜍跑回家，他种下了花籽。
“种子，现在开始生长。”蟾蜍说。
蟾蜍来回走了几次。种子没有开始生长。
蟾蜍把头贴近地面，大声说：“现种子，在开始生长！”。
蟾蜍又看了看地面。种子还是没有开始生长。
Toad put his head very close to
the ground and shouted：
“NOW SEEDS, START GROWING!”
Frog came running up the path.
“What is all this noise,” he asked.
“My seeds will not grow,” said Toad.
“You are shouting too much,” said Frog.
"These poor seeds are afraid to grow. "
"My seeds are afraid to grow?” asked Toad.
蟾蜍把头靠地面很近，
大声喊道：“种子，现在开始生长！”
青蛙跑上小径。“这是什么声音，”他问。
“我的种子不会长出来，”蟾蜍说。
“你喊得太多了，”青蛙说。
“这些可怜的种子害怕生长。”
“我的种子不敢长？”蟾蜍问。
“Of course,” said Frog.
“Leave them alone for a few days.
Let the sunshine on them,
let the rain fall on them.
Soon your seeds will start to grow.”
“当然，”青蛙说。
“让他们单独呆几天。
让阳光照在他们身上，
让雨落在他们身上，
很快你的种子就会开始生长。”
That night Toad looked out his window.
“Drat!” said Toad. “My seeds have not started to grow.
They must be afraid of the dark.”
Toad went out to his garden with some candles.
“I will read the seeds a story,” said Toad.
“Then they will not be afraid.”
Toad read a long story to his seeds.
那天晚上，蟾蜍向窗外望去。
“见鬼！”蟾蜍说。“我的种子还没有开始成长。
他们一定害怕黑暗。“
蟾蜍带着蜡烛到他的花园里去了。
“我要给种子们读一个故事，
他们就不会害怕了。”蟾蜍说。
蟾蜍为他的种子读了一个长篇故事。
All the next day Toad sang songs to his seeds.
And all the next day Toad read poems to his seeds.
And all the next day Toad played music for his seeds.
Toad looked at the ground.
The seeds still did not start to grow.
“What shall I do?” cried Toad.
“These must be very frightened seeds
in the whole world!”
Then Toad felt very tired, and he fell asleep.
第二天，蟾蜍为他的种子唱歌。
第二天，蟾蜍为他的种子读诗。
第二天，蟾蜍为他的种子演奏音乐。
蟾蜍看着地上，种子还是没有开始生长。
“我该怎么办？”蟾蜍喊道。
“这一定是全世界最害怕的种子吧！”
然后蟾蜍觉得很累，就睡着了。
“Toad, Toad, wake up,” said Frog.
“Look at your garden!” Toad looked at his garden.
Little green plants were coming up out of the ground.
At last shouted Toad,
“my seeds have stopped being afraid to grow!”
“And now you will have a nice garden too.” Said Frog.
“It was very hard work.”
“ 蟾蜍，蟾蜍，醒醒，看看你的花园！”青蛙说。
蟾蜍看着他的花园，小绿色植物从地上长出来了。
最后，蟾蜍喊道，“我的种子已经不再害怕生长了！”
“现在你也会有一个漂亮的花园了，
“这是非常艰苦的工作。””青蛙说。
Cookies
饼干
Toad baked some cookies.
“These cookies smell very good,” said Toad.
He ate one. “And they taste even better,” he said.
Toad ran to Frog’s house. “Frog, Frog,”
cried Toad, “taste these cookies that I made.”
Frog ate one of the cookies.
“These are the best cookies
I have ever eaten!” said Frog.
蟾蜍烤了些饼干。
“这些饼干闻起来很香，”蟾蜍说。
他吃了一个，"他们的味道更好，“他说。
蟾蜍跑到青蛙家。
“青蛙，青蛙，”尝尝我做的这些饼干。”蟾蜍叫道。

Frog and Toad ate many cookies, one after another.
“You know, Toad,” said Frog, with his mouth full,
“I think we should stop eating. We will soon be sick.”
“You are right,” said Toad.
“Let us eat one last cookie, and then we will stop.”
Frog and Toad ate one last cookie.
There were many cookies left in the bowl.
“Frog,” said Toad, “let us eat one very last cookie,
and then we will stop.”
Frog and Toad ate one very last cookie.
青蛙和蟾蜍吃了很多饼干，一个接一个。
“你知道，蟾蜍，”青蛙含着一嘴饼干说，
“我想我们应该停止吃东西，我们会不舒服的。”
“你说得对，”蟾蜍说。
“让我们吃最后一块饼干，然后我们就停下来。”
青蛙和蟾蜍吃了最后一块饼干。
碗里还剩下很多饼干。
“青蛙，”蟾蜍说，“让我们再吃最后一块饼干，

“We must stop eating!” cried Toad as he ate another.
“Yes,” said Frog, reaching for a cookie,
“we need will power.”
“What is willpower?” asked Toad.
“Will power is trying hard not to do something
that really wants to do,” said Frog.
“You mean like trying not to eat
all of these cookies?” asked Toad.
“Right,” said Frog.
“我们不能再吃东西了！”蟾蜍一边吃一边叫道。
“是的，”青蛙说，并伸手拿了一块饼干，
“我们需要意志力。”“意志力是什么？”蟾蜍问。
青蛙说：“意志力就是努力不去做真正想做的事情。”
“你的意思就是像努力不吃这些饼干一样？”蟾蜍问。
“对，”青蛙说。
Frog put the cookies in a box.
“There,” he said.
“Now we will not eat any more cookies.”
“But we can open the box,” said Toad.
“That is true,” said Frog.
Frog tied some string around the box.
“There,”he said. "Now we will not eat any more cookies."
"But we can cut the string
and open the box," said Toad.
"That is true," said Frog.
青蛙把饼干放进盒子里。
“那里，”他说，
“现在我们就不能吃更多饼干了。”
“但是我们可以打开盒子，”蟾蜍说。
“那确实，”青蛙说。
青蛙把绳子绑在盒子上。

Frog got a ladder.
He put the box up on a high shelf.
“There,” said Frog.
“Now we will not eat any more cookie.”
“But we can climb the ladder and take
the box down from the shelf and
cut the string and open the box,” said Toad.
“That is true,” said Frog.
Frog climbed the ladder and
took the box down from the shelf.
He cuts the string and opened the box.
青蛙有梯子。
他把箱子放在一个高高的架子上。
“那里，”青蛙说。
“现在我们不会再吃点更多饼干了。”
“但是我们可以爬上梯子，把盒子从架子上拿下来，
剪断绳子，打开盒子，”蟾蜍说。
“那是真的，”青蛙说。
青蛙爬上梯子，把盒子从架子上拿下来。
他切断了绳子，打开盒子。
Frog took the box outside.
He shouted in a loud voice,
“HEY BIRDS. HERE ARE COOKIES!”
Birds came from everywhere.
They picked up all the cookies
in their beaks and flew away.
“Now we have no more cookies to eat,”
said Toad sadly. “Not even one,”
“Yes,” said Frog, “but we have lots of will power.”
“You may keep it all, Frog,” said Toad.
“I am going home now to bake a cake.”
青蛙把盒子拿出去了。
他大声喊道：“嘿，小鸟。这是饼干！”
小鸟从四面八方飞来，
他们用嘴叼走所有的饼干，飞走了。
“”现在我们没有更多的饼干可以吃了，“蟾蜍伤心地说。
“是的，”青蛙说，“但是我们有很多意志力“。
“青蛙，你可以继续保持，”蟾蜍说，
“我现在要回家烤蛋糕了。”
Dragons and Giants
龙与巨人
Frog and Toad were reading a book together.
“The people in this book are very brave,” said Toad.
“They fight dragons and giants,
and they are never afraid!"
“I wonder if we are brave,” said Frog.
Frog and Toad looked into a mirror.
“We look brave,” said Frog.
“Yes, but are we?” asked Toad.
青蛙和蟾蜍一起读一本书。
“这本书里的人很勇敢，”蟾蜍说。
“他们与龙和巨人作战，且从不害怕！”
“我想知道我们是否勇敢，”青蛙说。
青蛙和蟾蜍看着镜子。
“我们看起来很勇敢，”青蛙说。
“是的，但是我们是吗？”蟾蜍问。
Frog and Toad went outside.
“We can try to climb that mountain,” said Frog.
That should tell us if we are brave.
Frog went leaping over rocks,
and Toad came puffing up behind him.
They went to a dark cave.
A big snake came out of the cave.
“Hello lunch,” said the snake.
when he saw Frog and Toad.
He opened his wide mouth.
Frog and Toad jumped away.
Toad was shaking. “I am not afraid!” he cried.
青蛙和蟾蜍出去了。
“我们可以试着爬那座山。”青蛙说。
这应该能告诉我们是否勇敢。
青蛙跳过岩石，蟾蜍喘着气跟在他后面。
他们去了一个黑暗的洞穴。
一条大蛇从洞里出来了。

They climbed higher, and they heard a loud noise.
Many large stones were rolling down the mountain.
“It’s an avalanche!” cried Toad.
Frog and Toad jumped away.
Frog was trembling. “I am not afraid!” he shouted.

许多大石头从山上滚滚而下，
“这是雪崩！”蟾蜍叫道。

They came to the top of the mountain.
The shadow of a hawk fell over them.
Frog and Toad jumped under a rock.
The hawk flew away.
“We are not afraid!”
screamed Frog and Toad at the same time.
Then they ran down the mountain very fast.
They ran past the place where they saw the snake.
They ran all the way to Toad’s house.
他们来到山顶。
一只鹰的影子落在他们身上。
青蛙和蟾蜍跳到岩石下面，老鹰飞走了。
“我们不怕！”青蛙和蟾蜍同时尖叫道。

“Frog, I am glad to have a brave friend like you,” said Toad.
He jumped into the bed and pulled the covers over his head.
“And I am happy to have a brave friend like you, Toad,” said Frog.
He jumped into the closet and shut the door.
Frog stayed in the bed, and Toad stayed in the closet.
They stayed there for a long time,
just feeling very brave together.
“青蛙，我很高兴有你这样一个勇敢的朋友，”蟾蜍说。
他跳上床把被子盖在他头上。
“我很高兴有你这样一个勇敢的朋友，蟾蜍，”青蛙说。
他跳进了壁橱，把门关上。
青蛙待在床上，蟾蜍待在壁橱里。
他们在那里待了很长时间，
只是觉得在一起很勇敢。
The Dream
梦
Toad was asleep, and he was having a dream.
He was on a stage,
and he was wearing a costume.
Toad was looking into the dark.
Frog was sitting in the theatre.
A strange voice from far away said,
“PRESENTING THE GREATEST TOAD IN THE WORLD!”
蟾蜍睡着了，他在做一个梦。
他当时正在舞台上穿着戏服。
蟾蜍看向黑暗处，青蛙正坐在剧院里。
一个来自远方的奇怪的声音说，
“这是世界上最伟大的蟾蜍。”
Toad took a deep bow.
Frog looked smaller as he shouted,
“Hooray for Toad!”
“TOAD WILL NOW PLAY THE PIANO VERY WELL,”
said the strange voice.
Toad played the piano, and he did not a note.
“Frog,” cried Toad, “Can you play the piano like this?”
“No,” said Frog.
It seemed to Toad that Frog looked even smaller.
蟾蜍深深地鞠躬。
青蛙看起来更小了，因为他喊：“蟾蜍万岁！”
“蟾蜍现在钢琴弹得很好，”奇怪的声音说。
蟾蜍弹钢琴，他没有弹音符。
“青蛙，”蟾蜍叫道，“你会像这样弹钢琴吗？”
“我不会，”青蛙说。
在蟾蜍看来，青蛙更渺小了。
“TOAD WILL NOW WALK ON A HIGH WIRE,
AND HE WILL NOT FALL DOWN,” said the voice.
Toad walked on the high wire.
“Frog,” cried Toad, “Can you do tricks like this?”
“No,” peeped Frog, who looked very, very small.
“蟾蜍现在要在一根很高的铁丝上走路，
他不会掉下来的，”这个声音说，
蟾蜍走在高高的铁丝上。
“青蛙，”蟾蜍叫道，“你能做这样的把戏吗？”
“我不会，”青蛙偷看着，它看起来更加的渺小了。
“TOAD WILL NOW DANCE,
AND HE WILL BE WONDERFUL,” said the voice.
“Frog, can you be as wonderful as this?”
said Toad as he danced all over the stage.
There was no answer.
Toad looked out into the theatre.
Frog was so small that he could not be seen or heard.
“Frog, what have I done?” cried Toad.
“蟾蜍现在要跳舞了，
他会很棒的，”那个声音说。
“青蛙，你能像这样棒吗？”
蟾蜍一边说，一边在舞台上跳舞。
没有人回答。蟾蜍向外看了看剧院。
青蛙太小了以至于它不能被看见或听到。
“青蛙，我做了什么？”蟾蜍叫道。
Then the voice said:
“THE GREATEST TOAD WILL NOW…”
“Shut up!” screamed Toad.
“Frog, Frog, where have you gone?”
Toad was spinning in the dark.
“Come back frog,” he shouted.
“I will be lonely!”
然后这个声音说：“最伟大的蟾蜍现在将要…….”
“闭嘴！”蟾蜍尖叫着。
“青蛙，青蛙，你去哪儿了？”
蟾蜍在黑暗中旋转。
“回来吧，青蛙，”他说，
“我会孤独的！”
“I am right here,” said Frog.
Frog was standing near Toad’s bed.
“Wake up, Toad,” he said.
“Frog is that really you?” said Toad.
“And you your own right size?” asked Toad.
“Yes, I think so,” said Frog.
Toad looked at sunshine coming through the window.
“Frog,” he said, “I am so glad that you came over.”
“I always do,” said Frog.
“我就在这儿，”青蛙说。
青蛙站在蟾蜍的床边。
“醒醒，蟾蜍，”他说。
“青蛙真的是你吗？”蟾蜍说。
“你现在是你自己的尺码吗？”蟾蜍问。
“是的，我想是的，”青蛙说。
蟾蜍看着从窗户透过的阳光。
他说，”青蛙，我很高兴你来了。”
青蛙说：“我一直都在。”
Then, Frog and Toad ate a big breakfast.
And after that, they spent a fine, long day together.
然后，青蛙和蟾蜍吃了一顿丰盛的早餐。
在那之后，他们在一起度过了美好而漫长的一天。
