绘本简介

猫妈妈要选两只小猫去城里寄信。最小的两只小猫这次终于争取到了机会。第一次独自进城，两只并不那么胆大的小猫对未知道路上可能会发生的事情展开了丰富的想象力，猫怪、强盗、大风、猫巫、大鸟等一些可怕的事情似乎在等着他们。可是尽管很害怕，他们却还是为了完成妈妈的任务而战胜了心理恐惧，顺利来到了城里。谁知真正可怕的始料未及的事情发生了，邮局没开门。就在小猫们为寄不了信伤心时，又一个意外惊喜等着他们。。。

这本绘本的故事充满紧张气氛，让读故事的小朋友也跟着紧张起来，不过最后的结局却让人开怀一笑。故事情节跌宕起伏，引人入胜。

One busy morning, Mother Cat sat down and wrote a letter. When she finished, she had a problem.
一个忙碌早晨，猫妈妈坐下来写了一封信。信写好时，她有个问题。

Oh fishsticks! Out of stamps. Someone must go to the Post office.
噢，炸鱼条！邮票用完了。得让谁去邮局一趟。

Mother cat called her seven children. Which two would go to town and mail the letter?
猫妈妈叫来她的七个孩子。哪两个愿意进城去寄这封信？

Eenie-meenie-miney-mo, which of you will get to go?
Eenie-meenie-miney-mo,谁会去呢？
She will pick us this time. I know.
这一次，她会选我们的。我知道。

Everyone wanted to go.
大家都想去。

Me. Me, me. No me. No me. Me.
我。我，我。不，我。不，我。我。

Finally, Mother Cat chose her two eldest kittens.
最后，猫妈妈选了她最大的两只小猫。

Y-O-U, I choose you and you.
Y-O-U, 我选你和你。

Her youngest kittens were very sad. They had never been to town without Mother Cat. Why couldn’t they have a chance?
她最小的两只小猫非常伤心。在没有猫妈妈的陪伴下，他们还从来没进过城。为什么就不能给他们一次机会呢？

Boo hoo! You never pick us Mother!
呜呜！你从来都不选我们，妈妈！

Let us go this time... BoooooHoooooo

How the older kittens laughed! Send the babies to town? Even shadows scared them. They would never make it.

大一点的小猫们笑得好厉害！派小宝宝进城？连影子都能把他们吓到。他们绝不可能完成任务的。

Scaredy cats, scaredy cats, can’t even catch a rat! Ha-ha, haha hah!

胆小猫，胆小猫，连只老鼠都不敢抓！哈哈哈哈！

I’m not scared. Neither am I.

我才不害怕呢！我也不怕。

But Mother Cat was fair. She knew the little kittens were right. It was their turn, after all.

但妈妈是公平的。她明白，这两只小猫是对的。这一次，终究该轮到他们了。

Mother Cat gave the letter to her youngest yellow kitten, and a coin to her youngest blue kitten.

猫妈妈把这封信给力最小的黄小猫，把一枚硬币给了最小的蓝小猫。

Now go straight to the Post Office, buy a stamp, and mail this very important letter.

现在，直接去邮局，买张邮票，寄出这封非常重要的信。

Proud and puffed-up, the happy kittens started on their way to town.

志高气昂地，快乐的小猫们开启了他们的进城之旅。

The cat caught the rat, heigh-o the derry-o, The cat caught the cat.

猫捉到了老鼠，heigh-o the derry-o,猫捉到了老鼠。

The road ahead seemed to go on and on forever.

面前的路好像没有尽头。

Each step took the kittens farther and farther away from home.

每走一步，小猫们就离家越来越远。

Suddenly, Yellow Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.

突然，黄小猫开始胡思乱想，担心害怕的事情。

“What if something bad happens? What if you lose Mother’s coin?” That would be bad.

“如果有坏的事情发生怎么办？如果你把妈妈的硬币弄丢了怎么办？”那就不好啦。

“What if I sneeze,” Blue Kitten agreed, Ahh-chooooo

“如果我打喷嚏，”蓝小猫同意，阿嚏！

“and the coin jumps out of my paw?”

“硬币就从我的爪子里跳出去了怎么办？”

“And it starts rolling away,” Yellow Kitten added, “faster and faster and faster?” Come back coin!

“然后，它就滚走了，”黄小猫接着说，“滚得越来越快，越来越快，怎么办？”回来，硬币！

I’m not the Ginger bread Man, but I can roll as fast as he ran.

我不是姜饼人，但我能滚得和他跑得一样快。

“And then it hides,” Blue Kitten said, “and we cannot find it?”

“然后，它藏了起来，”蓝小猫说，“然后，我们就找不到它了怎么办？”

Coin! Where are you? Here coin!

硬币！你在哪儿？来这儿，硬币！

But the scaredy cats did not turn back. They walked on down the road to town.

Before long, the kittens came to the bridge. Suddenly, Blue Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.

不久，小猫们来到了桥那里。突然，蓝小猫开始胡思乱想，担心害怕的事情。

“What if something awful happens when we cross over? What if someone steals Mother’s coin?”

“如果在我们过去的时候，有糟糕的事情发生怎么办？如果谁偷走了妈妈的硬币怎么办？”

How awful!

真糟糕！

“What if a giant troll cat jumps up out of the water,” Yellow Kitten agreed, “growling and yowling at us?”

“如果从水里跳出来一个巨大的山精猫，”黄小猫同意，“朝我们呜呜地嚎叫怎么办？”

Grrrrr yowl!

Grrrrr 嗷！

“And he grabs us and shakes us,” Blue Kitten added, “and wants to eat us up?”

“然后，他抓住我们，摇晃我们，”蓝小猫接着说，“想要吃了我们，怎么办？”

I’m going to eat you for my snack.

我要把你们当点心给吃了。

“And he sees the coin shining in our paws,” Yellow Kitten said, “and takes it from us?”

“他看到我们爪子里闪亮的硬币，”黄小猫说，“从我们这里把硬币抢走，怎么办？”

The scaredy cats thought about turning back, but they kept on going.

害怕的小猫们想要回去，但是他们继续朝前走。

One the other side of the bridge, the kittens tiptoed into the forest. Suddenly, Yellow Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.

在桥的另一边，小猫们垫着脚尖进了森林。突然，黄小猫开始胡思乱想，担心害怕的事情。

“What if something dreadful happens? What if I lose Mother’s letter?”

“如果有可怕的事情发生怎么办？如果我把妈妈的信给弄丢了怎么办？”

How dreadful!

好可怕！

“What if a howling wind comes along?” Blue kitten agreed, “and rips the letter out of your paws?”

“如果一阵呼啸的风跟着我们走怎么办？”黄小猫同意，“然后，他把信从你的爪子里扯走了怎么办？”

“And the wind throws the letter down into the leaves?” Yellow Kitten added.

“如果那阵风把信扔到树叶里面了怎么办？”黄小猫接着说。

“And we look and look for it, until we are grey and whiskered,” Blue Kitten said, “but never find it?”

“我们找啊，找啊，直到我们老得全身发灰，长出胡子来，”蓝小猫说，“但是就是找不到信，怎么办？”

By whiskers, we’re bound to find it soon.

Yep..........

有了胡子，我们一定了很快找到它的。

是的......

Even though the scaredy cats wanted to go back home, they kept on walking through the forest.
尽管害怕的小猫想要回家，但他们还是继续穿过森林超前走。

Soon, they came to the long, dark tunnel.
很快，他们来到了一条长长的、黑黑的隧道。

Suddenly, Blue Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.
突然，蓝小猫开始胡思乱想，担心害怕的事情。

“What if something terrible happens? What if someone steals Mother’s letter?”

“如果有很恐怖的事情发生怎么办？如果谁把妈妈的信给偷了怎么办？”

How terrible.

好恐怖。

“What if cat-bandits are inside, waiting for us?” Yellow Kitten agreed.

“如果里面有猫强盗在等着我们，怎么办？”黄小猫同意。

Heh, heh, heh! Shhhhhhhhhh! Here they come.

嘿嘿嘿嘿！嘘！他们来了。

“What if they have claws like knives,” Blue kitten added, “and red-gleaming cat eyes?”

“如果他们的爪子像刀子一样，”蓝小猫接着说，“猫眼睛里闪着红光怎么办？”

“And they surround us,” Yellow Kitten said, “and tie us up with ropes, and leave us shivering in the dark, cold tunnel?”

“他们围住我们，”黄小猫说，“把我们用绳子绑起来，留我们在这个黑黑的、冰冷的隧道里瑟瑟发抖，怎么办？”

I’m cold. Me too.

我好冷。我也是。

Still, the scaredy cats kept on going, through the tunnel and out the other side.

仍然，害怕的小猫继续朝前走，穿过隧道，来到了另一边。
