Toad and Frog went for a long walk.
蟾蜍和青蛙走了很长的路。
They walked across a large meadow.
它们走过一个大草原，
They walked in the woods.
走过树林，
They walked along the river.
又沿着小河散步。
As they went back home to Toad's house, Toad said, "Oh drat! Not only do my feet hurt, but I have lost one of the buttons on my jacket."
当它们回到蟾蜍的家时，蟾蜍尖叫一声：“哦，见鬼！我不仅弄伤了脚，还丢失了夹克上的一颗纽扣。”
"Don't worry," said Frog. "We will go back to all the places where we walked. We will soon find your button."
“别担心，”青蛙说道。“我们将会沿着走过的路线返回，很快就会找到你的纽扣。”
They walked back to the large meadow.
他们回到那片大草原。
They began to look for the button in the tall grass.
开始在高高的草丛中寻找纽扣。
"Here is your button!" cried Frog.
“这是你的纽扣！”青蛙兴奋地喊道。
"That is not my button," said Toad. "That button is black. My button was white."
“这不是我的纽扣，”蟾蜍回答。“这个纽扣是黑色的，而我的纽扣是白色的。”
Toad put the black button in his pocket.
蟾蜍把黑色的纽扣放到了它的口袋里。
A sparrow flew down. "Excuse me," said the sparrow. "Did you lose a button? I found one."
一只麻雀飞过来。“打扰一下，”麻雀说道。“你是不是丢了纽扣？我找到一颗。”
"That is not my button," said Toad. "That button has two holes. My button had four holes."
“这不是我的纽扣，”蟾蜍回答。“这个纽扣有两个孔，而我的纽扣有四个。”
Toad put the button with two holes in his pocket.
蟾蜍把两个孔的纽扣放到了它的口袋里。
They went back to the woods and looked on the dark paths.
它们回到树林中，在一条漆黑色小路上寻找。
"Here is your button," said Frog.
“这是你的纽扣！”青蛙说道。
"That is not my button," cried Toad. "That button is small. My button was big."
“这不是我的纽扣，”蟾蜍尖叫。“这个纽扣是小的，而我的纽扣是大的。”
Toad put the small button in his pocket.
蟾蜍把小纽扣放到了它的口袋里。
A raccoon came out from behind a tree. "I heard that you were looking for a button," he said. "Here is one that I just found."
一只浣熊从一棵树后跳出来，“我听说你们在找纽扣，”它说。“这是我刚刚找到的。”
"That is not my button!" wailed Toad. “That button is square. My button was round.”
“这不是我的纽扣，”蟾蜍开始哀嚎。“这个纽扣是方形的，而我的纽扣是圆形的。”
Toad put the square button in his pocket.
蟾蜍把方形的纽扣放到了它的口袋里。
Frog and Toad went back to the river. They looked for the button in the mud.
青蛙和蟾蜍回到河边，在一片泥浆里寻找。
"Here is your button," said Frog.
“这是你的纽扣！”青蛙说道。
"That is not my button!" shouted Toad. "That button is thin. My button was thick."
“这不是我的纽扣，”蟾蜍大声喊道。“这个纽扣是薄的，而我的是厚的。”
Toad put the thin button in his pocket.
蟾蜍把薄纽扣放到了它的口袋里。
He was very angry. He jumped up and down and screamed, "The whole world is covered with buttons and not one of them is mine!"
它非常生气，跳了起来并一直尖叫，“整个世界都是纽扣，但没有一个是我的！”
Toad ran home and slammed the door. There, on the floor, he saw his white, four-holed, big, round, thick button.
蟾蜍跑回家，砰地关门。那儿，在地板上，它看到一颗白色、四孔、圆的、厚纽扣。
"Oh," said Toad. "It was here all the time. What a lot of trouble I have made for Frog."
“哦，”它说。“纽扣一直在这里。我给青蛙带来多大的麻烦啊。”
Toad took all of the buttons out of his pocket.
蟾蜍拿出口袋里的所有纽扣，
He took his sewing box down from the shelf.
把它的针线盒从架子上拿下来，
Toad sewed the buttons all over his jacket.
给夹克缝上了所有的扣子。
The next day Toad gave his jacket to Frog.
第二天，蟾蜍把它的夹克送给青蛙。
Frog thought that it was beautiful.
青蛙觉得这件衣服很漂亮，
He put it on and jumped for joy.
开心地穿上了。
None of the buttons fell off.
没有一颗扣子掉下来。
Toad had sewed them on very well.
蟾蜍把它们缝得非常牢固。
