1. The Browns Take the Day Off
Brown家今天休息
It was a hot day.
So Mr. Brown took his family
to the swimming pool.
今天好热呀，
所以Brown先生带着他的家人去游泳池。
Sam and Jane jumped right in.
They raced all the way to
the other end of the pool.
Then they raced back.
Sam和Jane直接跳了进去，
他们一路飞奔到池子的另一端，再跑回去。
Grandpa jumped in.
Then he jumped up and down.
Each time he came down
he called out, “Brrrrrrrr!”
爷爷也跳进来了，他也上蹿下跳的。
每次他脚落地，都要（痛得）大叫 “呀！”
Mr. Brown bounced up
and down on the diving board.
Brown先生在跳板上蹦蹦跳跳。
Mrs. Brown sat in the sun
and turned bright red.
Brown太太坐在阳光下，
阳光把她照得非常鲜红。
“It is very nice here today,” said Jane.
“It will be even nicer on Tuesday,”
said the man with the broom.
“Why?” asked Sam.
“Why?”asked Grandpa.
“Why?” asked Mr.Brown.
“Why?” asked Mrs.Brown.
“On Tuesday,”
said the man with the broom,
“there will be water in the pool.”
“今天这里可真好啊！”Jane说。
“星期二这里会更好的！” 一个拿着扫帚的男人说。
“为什么呢？” Sam问。
“为什么呢？” 爷爷问。
“为什么呢？” Brown先生问 。
“为什么呢？” Brown太太问。
“因为呀，星期二这池子里就有水了”
（原来泳池里还没放水呀！）
2. Sam and Jane Go Camping
Sam和Jane去野营
Sam and Jane were camping out.
When it got dark,
they made a big fire and told stories.
Sam和Jane外出野营，
当天黑的时候，
他们生起了大大的火堆，讲起了故事。
“This is a story about Bill,the ghost dog,”
said Jane,“It’s a very scary story.”
“I hope so,” said Sam.
“Once upon a time,” said Jane,
“there was a big white dog named Bill.
Bill had a very mean owner.
He wouldn’t feed Bill or pet him or anything.
Then one night—”
“这是一个关于幽灵狗Bill的故事，”Jane说。
“这是一个很恐怖的故事”。
“我希望如此。” Sam说。
“从前，” Jane说“有一只大白狗，名字叫Bill。
Bill有一个很吝啬的主人，
他既不喂Bill，也不宠爱他，
然后有一天……”
Suddenly Jane stopped.
She heard a strange sound.
Hmmmmmmmm!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
It was getting louder and louder.
突然，Jane停了下来。
她听到了一个奇怪的声音。
嗯……！嗯嗯……！嗯嗯嗯……！
声音变得越来越响。
“Ouch!” cried Sam.“Something bit me!”
“Ouch!” yelled Jane.“Something bit me, too!”
“哦！”Sam大叫道： “有东西咬了我！”
“哦！”Jane大叫道：“也有东西咬了我！”
“It’s a bunch of mosquitoes!”yelled Sam.
They jumped up and down and
ran around and waved their arms.
But the mosquitoes would not go away.
“Let’s put out the fire,”whispered Sam.
“They’ll never find us in the dark.”
“是一群蚊子！” Sam大叫道。
他们上下蹦跳，跑来跑去，
还挥动着他们的手臂，
但是这些蚊子却不离开。
“快把火灭了，”Sam小声说，
“他们在黑暗里就不能发现我们了。”
They put out the fire and sat down on a rock.
A mosquito flew by, then disappeared.
It was as quiet as a graveyard.
“They are gone!”whispered Jane.
“I think so,”whispered Sam.
他们熄灭了火，坐在了一块岩石上。
一只蚊子飞了过来，然后消失了。
四周像墓地一样安静。
“他们离开了。”Jane小声说。
“我也这么觉得。” Sam小声说。
Then some fireflies flew by.
“On, no!” Sam groaned. “They are back!
And now they are looking for us
with flashlights.”
接着一些萤火虫飞了过来，
“哦！不！”Sam抱怨道。
“他们回来了！
现在他们是打着手电筒在找我们了！”
3. Mr.Brown Washes His Underwear
Mr.Brown洗内衣
On Saturday，
Mr. Brown washed his dirty clothes.
He washed his socks,
his shirts, and his underwear.
周六，Mr. Brown洗了自己的脏衣服。
他洗了自己的袜子、衬衣和内衣。
Then he hung them up to dry in the backyard.
He hung the underwear in the apple tree.
然后他在后院把它们挂起来晾干，
他把内衣挂在了一颗苹果树上。
When the wind blew, the underwear
waved its arms and kicked its legs.
It looked like a dancing ghost.
风起时，那件内衣挥动着它的手臂，
踢动着它的双腿，
看起来像是一个在跳舞的幽灵。
After supper that night,
Mrs. Brown looked out the window.
“There is a man in the apple tree,”
she told Mr. Brown.
“Don’ worry,”he said，“I will scare him away.”
那天晚上晚饭过后，Mrs. Brown望向窗外。
“这棵苹果树上有一个人！”她告诉Mr. Brown。
“别担心。”他说，“我会把他吓走的”。
Mr. Brown went into the yard.
He called out, “Who are you?
What do you want?” Nobody answered.
Mr. Brown走到了院子里，他大叫道。
“你是谁? 你想要什么?”没有人回应。
He called out again, “Who are you?
What do you want?” Again nobody answered.
他又大叫了一次：“你是谁? 你想要什么?”
还是没有人回应 。
Mr. Brown got angry. “You are very rude
not to answer me,” he shouted.
But still there was no answer.
Mr. Brown生气了。
“你真的很粗鲁，都不回答我。”
他大叫道，然而还是没有回答。
So Mr. Brown picked a ripe tomato,
and he threw it at the man in the tree.
所以Mr. Brown拿起了一个成熟的西红柿，
扔向了那个树上的人。
Then he threw another-and another, and
another.“That will show you!” he shouted.
接着他又扔了另外一个，
再一个，再一个。
“这会让你原形毕露的！”他大叫道。
The next morning,
he went outside to get his clothes.
When he got to the apple tree,
he was very surprised.
His underwear was covered
with squashed tomatoes,
and it was dripping tomato juice.
“I am really lucky
I wasn’t wearing that underwear,”
Mr. Brown said to himself.
第二天早上，
他走到外面去收自己的衣服。
当他走到苹果树前时，他惊呆了！
他的内衣沾满了被挤烂的西红柿，
正在滴着西红柿汁。
“我真的很幸运，我没有穿着那件内衣。”
Mr. Brown对自己说。
4. Jane Grows a Carrot
Jane种了一个胡萝卜
Jane and Sam were walking home from school.
"I have a secret to tell you," said Jane.
"I won't tell anybody." said Sam.
Jane和Sam正从学校走回家，
“我有一个秘密要告诉你。”Jane说。
“我不会告诉任何人的。”Sam说。
"There is a carrot in my ear," said Jane.
"It has been growing there all week."
"That is very strange," said Sam.
“我的耳朵里有个胡萝卜！”Jane说。
“它长在这儿一个星期了。”
“这事太奇怪了！”Sam说。
"How did that happen?"
"I don't know," said Jane，"I planted radishes."
“是怎么发生的呢？”
“我不知道，”Jane说，“我种下了小萝卜。”
5.Grandpa Buys a Pumpkin Egg
爷爷买了一只南瓜蛋
After breakfast Grandpa took a long walk.
In front of the grocery store
he saw a big pile of pumpkins.
"What are those big round things?"
he asked the grocer.
早饭过后，爷爷散步了很久。
在一个杂货店前，他看见了一大堆的南瓜。
“这些大大圆圆的东西是什么呀？”他问店主。
"Don't you know?" the grocer asked him.
"I don't think so," said Grandpa.
The grocer smiled.
"They are horse eggs," he said.
"You put one in a sunny place
and sit on it for a day and a night,
and it will hatch a baby horse."
"I bet Sam would like one!" Grandpa thought.
“你不知道吗？”店主问他。
“我想我不知道。”爷爷说。
店主笑了，“它们是马的蛋，”他说。
“你放一个在阳光充足的地方，
坐在它上面一天一夜，它就会孵出一个小马驹。”
“我打赌Sam会想要一个！”爷爷说。
"Okay," he said,"give me the biggest one."
“好的，”他说，“给我最大的那一个。”
When Grandpa got home,
he put the pumpkin in the backyard.
当爷爷回家的时候，他把南瓜放在后院里。
Then he went into the kitchen
and got a chicken leg,
a hard-boiled egg, some jelly beans,
and some lemonade.
"Now I won't get hungry." he said to himself.
然后他走进了厨房拿了一只鸡腿、
一个煮鸡蛋、一些软糖和柠檬水，
“这样我就不会饿了！”他对自己说。
Then he sat on the pumpkin, and he waited.
He sat all that day, and he sat all that night.
然后他坐在了南瓜上等待，
他坐了一天又一夜。
By the next morning he was so tired
he fell asleep and fell off the pumpkin.
第二天早上他太累了，
他睡着了，然后从南瓜上摔了下来。
When that happened,
the pumpkin started rolling down the hill.
这时候，南瓜开始滚下山坡。
It rolled and it rolled
until it crashed into a bush.
A rabbit was sitting inside the bush.
它滚啊滚，直到撞上了灌木丛。
一只兔子正坐在灌木丛中。
When the pumpkin rolled in,
the rabbit jumped out and started running.
Grandpa saw the rabbit,
and he got very excited.
"Come back, little horse!" he called.
"Come back!" But the rabbit kept running.
当南瓜滚进去的时候，
兔子跳出来跑了。
爷爷看到兔子非常激动：
“回来，小马！”他喊道，“回来！”
但是兔子还是继续跑。
Grandpa went to see the grocer again.
"I want my money back," he said.
"Why?" asked the grocer.
"Well," said Grandpa,
"the egg hatched all right.
But the baby horse ran away."
爷爷又去见了店主，
“我想要拿回我的钱！”他说。
“为什么？”店主问。
“嗯……”爷爷说，
“蛋确实孵出来了，但是小马驹跑走了。”
6. It Is Time to Go to Sleep
该睡觉啦
“It is ten o’clock, ” Mrs.Brown called out.
“Time to go to sleep!”
“十点啦！该睡觉啦！”Brown夫人喊道。
“I am taking my ruler to bed, ” said Sam.
“I want to know how long I sleep.”
“我要把我的尺子拿到床上，”Sam说。
“这样我就知道我睡觉的长度啦。”
“I am taking my bicycle to bed,” said Jane.
“I am tired of walking in my sleep.”
“我要带着我的自行车上床睡觉，” Jane说。
“我再也不想在梦里走路了。”
“I am taking my running shoes to bed,”
said Mr. Brown.
“Last night I dreamed a bear was chasing me,
and I don’t want him to catch me.”
“我要带着我的运动鞋上床睡觉，” Brown先生说。
“昨天我梦到一只熊在追我，
我可不想让它追上我。”
“I am taking my mirror to bed,” said Grandpa.
“I want to see how I look when I’m asleep.”
“我要带着我的镜子上床睡觉，” 爷爷说。
“我想看看我睡着了是什么样子啊！”
Then Mr. Brown said to Mrs. Brown,
“Put the light out and come to bed.”
So Mrs. Brown put the light out and
came to bed.And they all went to sleep.
Brown先生对他太太说：
“快关了灯，上来睡觉吧！”
Brown太太照做了，
这下他们都睡觉啦！
