And a fat brown rat who lived in the barn.
原来是一只又肥又大的棕色的老鼠。
One morning, the little red hen walked to the field.
一天早上，小红母鸡的肚子饿得咕咕叫，于是她来到田地里觅食。
She was looking for juicy worms to eat.
她一边走，一边左看看右看看，在土地里寻找又肥又大又多汁的虫子吃。
“Hide! It’s the little red hen!”
“大家赶快藏起来，小红母鸡来了，千万别被她发现了！”
She went scratch, scratch, scratch with her small sharp toes and she found some grains of wheat.
她用她又小、又尖的爪子在土地里抓啊刨啊。她在土地里发现了一些小麦的谷粒。
“Ooh！”she cried. She fluffed her feathers.
“Cluck, cluck, cluck!”
“哦，咯咯咯！”小红母鸡兴奋地不停的抖动羽毛。
“Who will help me plant the wheat？”
“你们谁愿意和我一起种植小麦呢？”
“Not I,”said the cat.
小黑猫说：“我可不愿意。”
“Not I,”said the duck.
小鸭子说：“我可不愿意。”
“Not I,”said the rat
小老鼠说：“我可不愿意。”
“Fine!”said the little red hen. “Then I’ll do it myself.”
“好吧，你们全都不愿意帮我，那我只好一个人种小麦了。”
And she did.
小红母鸡下定决心说干就干，真的自己种起了小麦。
The little red hen pecked at the ground and make a hole.
One by one, she dropped the grains in.
小红母鸡找了一片平坦的地方，用尖尖的嘴在地上啄啊啄啊，啄出来一个洞。
然后她再把一粒种子放进洞里。小红鸡就这样在地上啄出一个又一个的洞，然后把种子一个接一个的放进去，很快，她就种了一大片地。
“What a waste of time!”
“这简直是浪费时间嘛！”
The little red hen waited for her wheat to grow all through the winter.
小红母鸡一整个冬天都守着自己种下的这片土地，耐心的等啊等啊，等着自己种下的粮食快快长大。
First, the shoots were small and green.
她种的这些小麦终于发芽了，虽然一开始这些小嫩芽还是小小的，绿绿的。
