运送盐巴的驴子 A donkey who carried salt 一个盐贩子骑着一匹驴子到海边买盐，买好盐，又把盐巴放在驴子的背上让他驮回家，盐巴很重，累的驴子直喘气。
Once upon a time, a salt dealer rode a donkey to the seaside to buy some salt. After he had bought several bags of salt, he placed them on the donkey’s back and set out on his journey homeward. The salt was very heavy, and soon the donkey became very tired and began to pant.
他们蹚过一条小溪时，驴子脚下一滑，跌倒在水里。 盐巴浸水了，盐遇到水很快就溶解了许多。当驴子重新驮起盐巴时，就感到背上轻了了很多。于是，他脚步轻松地走回家去了。
When they were wading through a brook, the donkey slipped and fell into the water. The water seeped through the bags and dissolved much of the salt. When the donkey began walking again, he sensed the burden on his back had grown lighter. Thus he calmly plodded home with his light luggage.
过了几天，盐贩子又骑着驴子到海边去买盐，为了弥补上次的损失，这回买的盐更多，因此，压在驴背子上的盐巴更重了。在回家的路上，又要经过那条小溪，驴子为了减轻负担，故意跌翻在溪水里。盐在水里溶化了许多，驴子驮的盐巴又变轻了。
A few day later, the salt dealer again rode the donkey to the seaside to buy some more salt. In order to make up for the salt that they lost on the last trio, he bought even more. Thus the burden on the donkey’s back was even heavier. As they crossed the brook again on the way home, the donkey intentionally fell down in the water in order to lighten his burden of salt. Just as before, much of the salt dissolved in the water and the load on the donkey’s back became lighter.
驴子心里暗暗得意。可是，这一回盐贩子看出驴子是故意捣蛋，就暗暗下决心要教训一下这头不老实的驴子。
The donkey could not help but smile in relief. However, this time the salt dealer noticed that the donkey was playing a trick on him. He decided to teach the sneaky animal a lesson.
又过了几天，盐贩子第三次骑驴到海边，这次没有买盐，而是买了很多海绵。驴子驮着其实并不重的海绵回家，在蹚过小溪时又故意跌倒在水里。这回海绵可没有溶化在水里，分量没有减轻，反而吸足了水。
When they rode to the seaside again a few days later, the salt dealer bought a lot of sponges instead of salt, and placed them on the donkey’s back to carry home. Though the sponges were not very heavy, the donkey fell intentionally into the water again as they waded across the brook. Yet the sponges didn’t dissolve in the water like the salt had; instead, they absorbed a lot of water.
当驴子重新站起来开始走路时，才感到压在背上的分量重了很多很多。他摇摇晃晃地走到家门口，累得趴了下来。。。。。。
When the donkey got back on his feet, he realized the burden on his back had become much heavier. He plodded slowly along the road, the heavy bags swaying to and fro on his back. By the time they reached home, the donkey was so tired hat he collapsed on the ground and immediately went to sleep.
